We would like to see a greater diversity of projects at Battersea Power Station than is currently envisaged. We would particularly like to see free public access to the historic areas of the building: in particular the Battersea A’ Control Room and Turbine Hall, and external areas of the site. Projects under consideration at the present time include:

The UK Energy Centre

A UK Energy Centre in the Battersea ‘A’ turbine hall would be a centrepiece of the redevelopment, stimulating public interest. The Energy Centre would be a visitor attraction and educational facility, giving advice on energy conservation and carrying out research.

The Energy Centre is an idea previously advocated by Battersea Power Station Community Group. See:

Space for the Creative Industries

The Battersea ‘A’ Switch House would be an ideal business address for the creative industries of London: art & design, new media etc. The ‘A’ Station Switch House could easily be converted to provide cheap flexible space, which would be offered at preferential rates for new companies just starting up.

Battersea Water Pumping Station

The Grade II listed Battersea Water Pumping Station should be brought back into use at an early stage of the redevelopment. This is a small building that would be an ideal pilot project for the incremental development. The building could be used as an arts centre or as an exhibition space for the redevelopment project

Interim Uses Initiative

Interim uses such as a farmers market, urban farm etc could be set up on the vacant parts of the site awaiting development, as a means of stimulating local interest in the redevelopment project. Uses that prove popular could have a long-term home on the Power Station site.
